Vineyards: The name of “Cotes de Francs” comes from its origin from the beginning of the 6th century. After the battle of Vouillé in 507, Clovis, 1st King of the Francs, defeated Alaric II, king of the Visigoths, and seized Aquitaine. The place there was a detachment of the Franque army that was called in Latin "Ad Francos", or in French "aux francs", later became "Francs". There are several Romanesque churches in this region, such as Notre Dame de Tayac church or St Cibard churche. Saint Martin de Francs, destroyed during the wars of religion in 1578, was reconstructed identically by Jean de Gaufreteau
